Overview

In this Key Insights™ activity, Drs. Marla Dubinsky and Ben Cohen discuss the key take-home messages from the 2018 Great Debates and Updates in Inflammatory Bowel Disease meeting, held on August 25, 2018 in Dallas, Texas, which focused on the interpretation of best practices and recent advancements in the management of IBD. Topics of discussion include: health maintenance guidelines such as vaccination as a tool for providing enhanced quality care for patients with IBD, use of biologics during and after pregnancy and proactive vs reactive therapeutic drug monitoring for biologic therapy in IBD.

Objectives

Upon successful completion of this educational activity, participants should be better able to:

  1. Recognize how integration of relevant clinical trial data into clinical practice has the potential to enhance outcomes in patients with IBD
  2. Integrate health maintenance guidelines such as vaccination, cancer screening as a tool for providing enhanced quality care for patients with IBD
  3. Define a rational use of biologics during and after pregnancy and analyze pregnancy outcomes based on the treatment strategy
