ABSTRACT

More than 10% of children in the United States have asthma, with greater numbers in urban, low-income areas. In a busy practice focused on serving as many patients as possible, asthma education often gets pushed to the side. The goal of the session is to show that a specialty clinic within a primary care setting can work. It allows families to establish a relationship with their health care provider and decreases ED visits and hospitalizations. The education provided during asthma clinic visits empowers families so they are confident caring for their child with asthma.
