Closing the Gaps in Gastric Cancer Care: Novel Therapies and Multidisciplinary Strategies

Target Audience

This activity is intended for community and academic clinicians who treat or are interested in treating patients with GI malignancies, including community oncologists and other HCPs (physicians-in-training, oncology nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, and others) involved in the therapeutic management of patients with GI cancers.

Overview

Gastric cancer is associated with significant morbidity and mortality and greatly impacts patient quality of life. Outcomes for gastric cancer are poor. Estimates of 5-year survival rates range from 26%-31%, and estimated rates of survival for patients with metastatic disease are a dismal 8 months. Most patients are diagnosed in the later stages of disease, when curative therapy is no longer an option. Even if gastric cancer is treated in its early stages, relapse rates are high, with 20%-40% of patients experiencing relapse. However, significant advances over the past two decades on understanding cancer pathophysiology have led to the development of novel therapeutic options, especially for patients with advanced, relapsed, or refractory disease. 

This webcast aims to analyze and close gaps in gastric cancer care, summarize novel therapies, and provide expert guidance on effective multidisciplinary gastric cancer care. 

Objectives

Upon successful completion of this educational activity, participants should be better able to:

  1. Analyze gaps in current gastric cancer standards of care
  2. Summarize recent genomic insights into gastric cancer classification and pathophysiology
  3. Inspect new and emerging targeted agents for the management of gastric and gastroesophageal junction cancer
  4. Develop integrative treatment plans for effective multidisciplinary gastric cancer care

Eligibility for pharmacy credit is contingent upon the successful completion of a post-test and/or evaluation for each activity or session attended. Please note that you must complete the activity evaluation within 60 days of a live activity or within 60 days of beginning the evaluation for an enduring activity. Under ACPE Policy, NACCME will not be able to report your activity completion to CPE Monitor after this 60-day period.
