Upon completion of this educational
activity, participants should be able to:
• Discuss the importance of herpes zoster prevention and management, especially among Medical Directors and other practitioners in long-term care
• Describe the pathogenesis and treatment of herpes zoster and of the impact of aging on the expression of herpes zoster
• Utilize special consideration in the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia especially regarding its management and impact in older adults
• Describe the rationale for preventing herpes zoster and of the major findings of the Shingles Prevention Study
• Utilize current expert recommendations regarding the use of zoster vaccine in older adults in the clinical practice setting.
