Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Recognize the association between contrast volume used during cardiac catheterization procedures and renal outcomes.
- Understand what an automated contrast delivery system is.
- Recognize that the use of an automated contrast delivery system known as the ACIST device reduces contrast volume during cardiac catheterization procedures.
- Recognize the association between the use of the ACIST device during cardiac catheterization and improvement in renal outcomes.
- Discuss the incidence of contrast-induced nephropathy.
- Identify the patients at highest risk for developing contrast-induced nephropathy.
- Discuss the role of contrast type and volume in causing contrast-induced nephropathy.
- Discuss the strategies to prevent and/or minimize the occurrence of contrast-induced nephropathy.
